Another new law the Muslim Brotherhood has instituted in Egypt is to lower the legal age for marriage to 14. Most girls in the USA are just starting high school at the age of 14.

This may seem like an awfully young age to get married to us, but actually brides are frequently much younger than that in Islamic countries. And there is precedence in Islamic traditions dating back to the very establishment of Islam.

Mohammed’s favorite wife (yes, he had more than one) was named Aisha. She was the daughter of one of his best friends and commanders. He married her (with her father’s approval) at the ripe old age of 6! But don’t be shocked because according to what we’ve been able to discover, he didn’t consummate the marriage with her until she was 9 or 10 (reports disagree on her age).

So you see, 14 years of age is really “mature” for marriage for Islamic women.

And now certain Muslim clerics have insisted it is fine to marry a girl child as early as four years of age!
